Many Types of Chinese Medicine Therapies Achieve Results
Cupping
Cupping is a therapy that stimulates the blood flow within superficial muscle layers. It is used for sore muscles, tension, neck and back pain, as well as the common cold. A small glass cup, which has been heated to create suction, is placed over specific areas on your body. The cups may leave slight red marks that will gradually fade in a few days.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a technique used to release muscle tension, tightness or constriction. A specialized tool is used to rub the skin over a problem area. Gua Sha feels a bit like deep tissue massage and may leave some slight redness that will fade after the treatment.
Moxibustion (Moxa)
Moxa uses an herb called mugwort that is burned either directly on the acupuncture point or on the handle of the acupuncture needle above the skin. This treatment is painless and does not burn the skin. Moxa is used to warm the acupuncture point in order to bring more Qi (oxygen) into the area and quicken the healing process.
Electro-Stimulation (E-stim)
E-stim uses a very small electrical current that is passed through the acupuncture needles to stimulate Qi (oxygen) and blood flow in a particular area. It is especially helpful in treating acute injuries, but can be used to treat chronic muscle tightness, tenderness or stiffness.
Auricular
Auricular therapy looks at the ear as a micro system representing the whole body. Very small needles are placed in the ear to stimulate different organs or structures of the body. It is especially effective for pain, insomnia, stress and addiction.
